Emily and Landon’s Backyard Garden Engagement Session

Emily and Landon will be getting married at their family friend’s gorgeous property in Stanley, NC later this year. They decided to use this backyard garden for their engagement session and I was NOT disappointed. There were huge banana trees, elephant ears and flowers of all kinds. We took advantage of a beautiful open field on their property for photos as well. This home is definitely a gardener’s dream.

Private residences are perfect for engagement shoots and weddings because the sky is the limit on what you can do. Since it’s privately owned, you can decorate it in any way you want. You’re starting from the bottom up, rather than at a venue where you only have so many options they will allow. It’s also intimate and personal to the couple, which I think is very special. For example Emily and Landon (who are high school sweethearts, by the way!) took their prom photos at this very home. So they’ve had multiple big life events in this location. It makes it that much more personal and important of a spot for them.

Emily, Landon and I had a great time exploring this property. We walked around, chatted about their upcoming wedding and got to know each other a bit better. I always like getting to know my couples a bit prior to their wedding because it helps them to already feel comfortable with me and in front of my camera. That way on their big day they can really just enjoy themselves and focus on the importance of the day, rather than feeling uncomfortable with a stranger following them around all day!
